30-Day Challenge #3: Prepare your Tax Return Accurately and File Early (March, 2017)

So I got my tax return yesterday and instead of the $200 I was expecting I got $948 back. I am kind of befuddled, I doubled checked everything and it looks good on SimpleTax. The only thing I claimed was the student loan interest credit for '16/'15 and I double checked the numbers on that too and it looks good.

I got this message on my return online. If anyone can make some sense of this please do

Explanation of changes and other important information

Based on this assessment, you have unused federal tuition, education, and textbook amounts of $2,948 that you can carry forward to later years. To make sure we calculate your unused amounts correctly, you need to file a return each year, even if you have no income to report.

We changed your federal tuition and education amounts from $0to $4,250. We also changed your Ontario amounts from $0 to $6,242. We included unused federal tuition and education amounts of $4,250 from prior years and unused provincial or territorial amounts of $6,242 from prior years.
