[#67|+623|69] Nestle Pays $524 to Extract 27,000,000 Gallons of Drinking Water Worth $80,000,000+ [/r/worldnews]

On the other hand there are things we can be doing TODAY to help farmers reduce their water usage.

I mean sure, on smaller scales... But most of the wasted waters in farms come from massive farms where it would take a lot of time, effort, and resources to actually upgrade their watering techniques. I'm not saying that shouldn't be done, but I don't really see how it's any different from Nestle, and what can we do today to help them exactly?

All of that aside, Farmers are actually producing something... I mean, come on. You get that, right? Nestle is just walking in and bottling something up, doing absolutely nothing to it other than putting it in containers to sell back to us for massive profits. If they didn't take the water, it would still be in the local water systems, we could be drinking it or complaining about how farmers use it.

I mean, the idea of taking tap water, and bottling it up, and then selling it to the people who would have been getting it for .005 cents a gallon... They're not doing anything except ripping people off. Farmers are at least doing something invaluable and necessary... And please don't go on about how a lot of their products are shipped overseas, that's not on the farmers, that's on local business.

Anyways, I agree with you, something needs to change within the Government so that this isn't allowed to happen. At the same token, we should be able to expect some basic human decency from corporations, I feel that it should be mandatory, as these corporations have the ability to effect everyday life of the average joe. So for me, sure, the Government needs to make these changes, but jesus it shouldn't be something the Government needs to do, it would be great if these companies making billions of dollars in profits and underpaying their employees weren't completely sadistic and, well, evil.

It's sad that we have to create laws to stop these people. Because if you break it down to it's simplest forms, we are government, we are Nestle, we are human beings and human beings take part in all aspects of Government, Nestle, Companies, etc. It would just be great if we could just not try to constantly fuck one another over.

It's funny though how we can get angry at farmers over Almonds, without taking into consideration that Almonds aren't even the largest water using crops, but they're growing something, doing something... I mean, if we're able to get angry at Farmers over Almonds, I wonder what would happen if these farmers were just storing all the water they use, and doing nothing with it. Meanwhile having it cost taxpayers and what not. Because in my eyes, that's exactly what Nestle is doing. Nothing. They're moving water from one place to another, public water, and then charging the public a hundred thousands times what it actually cost them...
