I've lived in Estonia for the past over seven years.

Spent the weekend with some friends out of town, and over breakfast it was, 'Did you read about El Paso?' 'Yep.' 'White guy.' 'Yep.'

Later, in the car, it was, 'There was another one. Ohio.' 'How many? ...Nojah.'

Nojah is kind of a resigned 'Welp.'

Some people still muster the energy to be more actively horrified by the ongoing mass-shooting epidemic in the US. Others are just as resigned as many in the US. Neither is wrong.

But this issue alone is reason enough when people ask why I don't ever want to move back. A few years ago, one student shot and killed one teacher at a school here and it was a goddamn national tragedy.
