Accidentally speeding and got a ticket

I speed a lot and there’s honestly no way you go almost 20 miles over and don’t know you’re going that fast. If you’re going 10-15 over cause of flow of traffic I don’t blame you. Most speed limits on freeways in VA are 55 mph and most drivers go 70.

However you’re a new driver, first thing to do is you just need to admit in this instance you made a mistake, if you had purposely been going 19 it’s a different story that’s on you, but if you don’t even know it that’s probably worse cause you should be driving more responsibly and carefully as you’re still learning to be comfortable driving. When I first got my license I did not go on the freeways till I was an adult because it gave me so much anxiety and the car I drove was so old. I’ve got a better car that can accelerate that it makes it enjoyable for me to drive now.

But trust me speeding tickets suck but they’re a form to generate revenue which is why speed limits in areas you think aren’t adequate are set up the way they are. Try your best to just go five over only in Virginia. The traffic tickets generate so much revenue I guarantee at most roads you think you can go fast are littered with cops everywhere.

You may be sad you got written for 19 but be happy it wasn’t 20 over because then you’d be charged with a criminal charge of reckless driving. Which is when you go 20 over or over 85.

Go to court, judge will offer you to get drivers school to clear this off your record and have a fresh start. Then get a phone stand and download Waze and it will tell you the speed limits of the road you’re on and the cops near you. Good luck.
