Adam Schefter : Doug Marrone cancelled his Denver HC interview scheduled for Saturday; wants to wait to see what happens with Gary Kubiak."

That makes sense if you're talking about real life, but you're trying to apply real life logic to the NFL

Yeah, because the NFL isn't real life. All these players and coaches are imaginary and exist only in our minds.

It's no different than being limited to 20 draftee interviews.

Yes it is. Teams can interview as many HC candidates as they want. Obviously they'll never approach 20, but there's far less viable HC candidates than their is potential draftees.

Some you interview because you want them, some as a smokescreen, some as quid pro quo for other teams because you share scouting info with.

NFL teams aren't wasting time like that, especially in this circumstance where all the top HC candidates are being snapped up left and right. I highly doubt they were actually considering Marrone for HC, but I 100% guarantee they had some level of interest in him as a potential assistant. It's just like Greg Roman interviewing with the Bills for HC. He ended up becoming our OC. The interview serves as a process for getting acquainted and developing contacts. This is another reason why Marrone is an absolute idiot for passing up an interview chance, even though he wasn't a genuine HC candidate.

The interview with Marrone will, for an example, consist of: "who are your assistants?"

There is almost zero chance they are talking about that on a first interview.

That means he'd have to spill the beans on guys he knows are looking to leave or possibly identify quality candidates the teams may not know much about.

Really?! Really?! You think they're going to bring in DOUG MARRONE to find out about unknown assistants? You think fucking John Elway needs DOUG FUCKING MARRONE to find out what good assistants could be out there? Are you fucking serious dude? Not only that, but why the hell would the Broncos FO care about who Marrone wants as assistants when they're not hiring him as HC? Any HC they hire will bring in their own guys, not ones that Marrone has mentioned in a first interview.

When he explains his scheme, he has to explain the people running it, which gives the Broncos a huge competitive advantage as these people may be littered throughout the NFL.

Are you serious? Every coach knows every other team's scheme. They aren't big secrets. Knowing what type of an offense or defense someone is running doesn't give you a huge advantage. It isn't like you're showing your potential playbook or gameplans.

I know you're still salty about Marrone and whatnot

Ah the "let me try and undermine your argument by implying you're biased" technique. Classic! No, you mong. You've remained consistent on the "Marrone is great, the Bills suck" side of things the whole time, well after your side of the argument has been objectively proven wrong.

but I assure you that your theory is completely inapplicable.

Nah, it's completely applicable. Probably even more so in a profession that is built so much around nepotism.
