ADHD is being used as a excuse too often

I don’t think this is fair. I genuinely didn’t do well in school because of ADHD. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was an adult so I was treated like I was “neurotypical” throughout school, when I really would have been able to do much better had I had help for my ADHD. I couldn’t focus at all in lessons, I tried and tried to do revision but it would send me to sleep and make my brain hurting. Teachers would tell me I just need to try harder when I actually was trying as best as I could, it was genuinely just impossible to focus on boring lessons and revision. I was predicted way better grades than I achieved and was always told I could do much better if I just “tried” lmao. When I got diagnosed I was at university, and after getting help and medication I achieved the best grades of my life.
