Children and work will always be more important than a social gathering. If someone can't adjust their life to deal with their partner being on call, they are TA. People who live the life of being on call have it much worse than the person who doesn't have to take the time out of their life to respond. She very much could have been out with her own friends having her own social life when getting a call and have to leave, would those friends treat her like she's an asshole for dealing with her fucking career??

Also, the guy couldn't take his kid with him to dinner???
