The way he tried (clumsily) to act like the earrings are no big deal and he practically forgot until Amazon reminded him feels a lot like a awkward dude making a play without the confidence to really own it. Jewelry has a certain connotation as well but it’s hard to tell without knowing what kind of earrings. Keep them or return them, whatever.
