I was in your boat not too long ago with my bestfriend, although being a male I can understand from his pov that he would be feeling a ton of pressure to make the first move since it's a stereotypical male role.
Just know that there is no need to rush and when the time is right it will just happen. Don't be afraid to talk to him about it in a gentle approach as he could be thinking the same thing as you and could be dying to kiss you but doesn't know if it would make you feel comfortable or not. Dating a best friend is hard asf to adjust but Ive been with my best friend for 3 years
