Americans of Reddit, what is something you didn't realise was typically American, until you went abroad?

Stereotype that all Americans are generally dumb and don't know anything about the rest of the world, which i now viciously try to guard against!. I genuinely didn't realize it was embarrassing or offensive to not know where every country/city was (but now I can completely understand).

When I met somebody who was from the Netherlands when I was 18 I made the mistake of asking if that was next to Sweden..... which it is not. Ha. I cringe just typing this at how embarrassing this was... but at the time I didn't realize that would be offensive. That opened me up to a host of "typical dumb Americans, doesn't know anything about the rest of the world!" Now I am super careful to be as well versed as possible.
