Why do Americans think their country is the best?

Not to be rude here, the question and comments here kinda piss me off. Seems to me like this has turned into a competition whether Europe or the US is better - you'll find extremely patriotic Americans just as you can find an patriotic French/German/Italian/... person. My guess is since the US are 1000 times bigger than any European country, you'll much frequently find a patriotic American than someone from a european country, especially since no one is "a patriotic European".

Also the overgeneralisation is really just... eh. And this goes both ways. People who generalise Americans as "patriotic idiots" are as bad as an people generalising all people from a specific European country as whatever.
