Has anyone ever honoured one of those “if we’re still single at 40 let’s get married” commitments? How did it go?

It's just a mutually agreed upon arranged marriage. I think they are awesome and most ideal if both parties are willing.

Like yes, I want to marry my boyfriend that I'm already completely in love with. But are we marrying because of obligation due to society views? Clearly arranged marriages are not the norm in America(my home country). Hence why I feel all the 'pre-marriage' conversations are so important. This is how I know this 'arrangement' of marriage will work out. We aren't just marrying because we love each other, but ALSO because we have mutually agreed on all the important topics beforehand just like any arranged marriage should. If anything I'm saying makes any sense at all....
