AP source: DOJ to announce Minneapolis police probe

Minneapolis is great case example of why there is no solution to policing in the US. Right now Minneapolis is supposed to have 800 police officers. Even before Floyd's murder they were about 100 officers short. For the past 2+ decades police forces have been having to cut requirements because of the growing lack of interest in becoming a cop. Meanwhile many places kept troubled cops simply because they were short of replacement. That POS Chauvan was an example of that with over dozen complaints against him yet still kept his job.

Now Minneapolis are around 500 but of those 500 somewhere like 50 are on long term disability. Another 100 or so are either burning out their sick time or genuinely trying to get disability. The remaining cops almost half can retire or will be able to in a few years.

Back in February Minneapolis spent 6 million trying to recruit 'dozens' of new cops. To date that program has yet hire one new police officer.

And it's not just Minneapolis, in Portland so many cops are quitting or retiring and virtually zero people are applying. That the city of Portland is now going to task un-armed park rangers to respond to shooting calls. They don't even have bullet proof vests, that have zero arrest powers, but they do have a can of dog mace which is significantly weaker than mace for people. Good luck to the Portland Park Rangers they are going to need it.
