Again and again we have to keep reiterating that those income statistics are skewed since Asian households are multi-generational and have more members earning an income. Take for example an Asian family where the grandparents and the parents are all working at take-out restaurants, each earning 20,000 a year. Well on paper that household is making just as much money as a mid-level Goldman Sachs banker, but the reality is they're still shit poor. And that's how it is for us just go to Chinatown, Korean Mom and Pop stores, Cambodiatown, and Little Saigon. And don't even get me started on that educational attainment thing, that should is in fact one of the greatest sins of our community.

I sure as shit did not grow up a "loaded East Asian" as LLAG puts it. No I was not starving and on welfare, but I grew up in a barely lower middle-class household with a Master's Degree earning Dad who barely kept our finances afloat by constantly demanding fair treatment from his racist White Boss who humiliatingly made him take on most of the OT and paid him less than the White entry levels of the company, who spent most of their time with their feet kicked up on their desks planning weekend getaways to Lake Tahoe while the other Asians worked their asses off.

Not being racially profiled by the cops is cold comfort when the reason for that is that the majority of Westerners find the idea of Asians being bad-ass criminals a concept you would find in alternate dimension. Instead walking down the street anybody from an elderly Hispanic Lady, to a group of Arab Muslim toddlers feels like they could just assault us on the street with anything they could their hands on because not only do we not fight back, but "Hit a Gook in the Dong, watch him squeal like Long Duk Dong." Plus I'll be very un-PC here and say that with the recent spate of police brutality in America, its my opinion that only Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, and Walter Scott (whose murderer is after all currently serving 20 years in prison), were egregious. Meanwhile, some Iranian guy will just randomly sucker punch me on the street and spit on me while all his friends, for no other reason than I am a "gook."

I'll end my rant there and say this. Asian Americans have, zilch in the West. We just want to survive, so sorry if we sometimes come across as selfish. But as people who descend from a continent that has suffered from Western and Japanese brutality, and famine, we know that the other truth of survival, besides its necessity for those you love, is that it is not pretty.
