American obsession with Japan

This sub focuses on Asians in the West, though. The real Asian caste in the West goes like this:

  1. Japan (especially for age 50+), Korea (for age 30 and under)
  2. Filipino, Indian/South Asian - those are seen as more "white" or Latino, or more brown, POC, and worthy
  3. Unusual, trendy Asian ethnicities for weebs who like off-the-beaten- path, like Central Asian (eg Kazakh, Mongolian), Uyghur, Tibetan, Nepalese, Cambodian. It's whatever cool victimized-by-Han ethnicity they're following, or Peace Corps patronizing vibe. Even Taiwan/HK has fallen into this slightly, yikes! Believe me, those are just seen as dirty Chinese in America, so no brownie points.
  4. Other Southeast Asians, like Vietnamese, Thai, or Indonesian - at least they're better than dirty Chinese. (Note that there are many ethnic Chinese from SEA, and in the diaspora)
  5. Chinese are obviously & definitely dead last. And HK/Taiwan descendants are definitely seen and treated as Chinese in the West, and dirtied as such, and no points whatsoever in day-to-day life.

I'm talking from the viewpoint of someone in a particularly "woke" area of the US, too. Chinese are hated the most in SJW areas, while Southeast Asian and South Asian get points and a free pass for supposedly being "brown" and therefore gets pitying, as "real" POC.
