If I remember correctly I think the book mentioned this a potential showdown and said that the big compromise regarding your first point would be that baby boomers would agree to cut down on their consumption of healthcare services in exchange for being the ones that define the morals and culture of the country in their elderly age.

I guess their assumption is based on how the GI's ended up accepting most socially conservative values at the end of WWII but in return they got a huge amount of political and institutional power to shape the country economically. I guess the aftermath of the Great crisis in 2020 ends up being more focused on rebuilding the country economically while traditional social issues stay in place for the time being. It would make sense since it wasn't until baby boomers, who were often led by their silent generation leaders, came of age did we start seeing some progressive social values start coming to the forefront in the 60's and 70's.
