Army Diversity Training at Ft Gordon

I edited my above comment about a minute after I posted, you might not have seen the edit. I thought you were referring to my first two examples using blacks and Hispanics. To answer this question. I am a white male. If my white boss constantly shot down my ideas at meeting without hearing me out, I never suspect discrimination. That is white privilege. Now if I were in a unit where I was the one of a few white males and my non-white boss shot down my ideas without hearing me out, I may suspect that they have a bias against me because of my race. I might think that based on their life experiences, they may feel that a white male can't bring anything to the table worthy of being considered. I could be right, I could be wrong- but the possibility is now in my mind. White privilege is a DoD approved curriculum taught at the EO schoolhouse to illustrate how a person's perception can lead to EO complaints. WP was a day long course and somewhat difficult to throughly explain in a few comments or even an hour long EO class to a unit. As I'm sure you are aware, there are racists of all skin colors in our Army. Understanding HOW discrimination occurs, helps us prevent it. Understanding WHY someone feels discriminated against, helps us prevent it. Understanding the concepts behind WP help us relate to the experiences of people in our unit. Understanding our team helps us build unit cohesion, making us a more effective fighting force. It is a difficult concept for some, but understanding WP is just one more tool in my kit to build a better team so we can carry out our mission in the most efficient way possible. Is that SJW fluff? Not for me anyway.
