Being Unconscious

I've experienced something similar. Growing up in one of the richest parts of my federal state in Germany, we never talked about money. I thought it would be pretty normal to live in huge houses and that homelessness or migrants would be a "TV thing". As a child we would never talk about money and I was never thinking about money. Living in wealth was just an ordinary thing.

As a teenager, I moved to a huge German city. I though that living in an apartment, meeting migrants and so on was just the nature of a city. Never really thought about it. In my first month of school we would talk about wealth and about wealthy people. My class mates would talk about the greed, injustice and immorality of millionaires. And I was answering naively "Well, I know some millionaires. And actually, they are decent people".

They were looking at me like I was a talking car.

Of course, I was involved in the socialist movement - like many upper middle class teens - but I thought people like Warren Buffet are wealthy.
