BFV died for this mess.

I think Battlefield V was terrible when it came out, and the post-launch content, while nice, did not do much to improve the actual gameplay features. The only things I think that it added which were good were the ability to drag artillery around with vehicles and fortify bases with things like sandbags.

BFV was the starting point for the deterioration of the class system. As soon as they made everyone able to revive and have health packs, they mostly ruined the medic class. Now in 2042 we have a class system that might as well not exist, when that used to be the core gameplay feature of Battlefield as a whole. The almost complete elimination of naval combat, massive changes in TTK, removal of spotting, change in vehicle aiming/driving, the lack of modes and maps at launch, the abscense of certain countries, factions, and fronts, and many other smaller issues did not help this game and made it feel incomplete. The focus on gimmicks such as a failed Battle Royale mode also wasted resources that could have gone towards improving the core game while it still had time. And that's not even getting into the killing of any semblance of immersion. No uniforms or period accurate camo was an issue along with the fact that classes were no longer recognizable by uniform/clothing.

And yet it was so much better than 2042 is now because it at least had the bare minimum intact from the older games. Oddly enough, now when compared to 2042, BFV actually seems like a faithful BF title.
