Boyfriend of 10 yrs half-ass gave me a ring (but not really) and isn't excited about getting married

Oh honey no. If this is his reaction now, he doesn't wanna go through with it.

My fiance of 9 years (25F/25M) and I got engaged when we finally talked (through a lot of tears and written messages) about why we did and didn't think marriage was important. It kinda boiled down to getting a visa for easy travel, and that I wanted it and he didn't not want it. And then, we got talking about time frames, should we do it before we move? Once I graduate? And a date just appeared. No ring, no special meaning, just two adults. But, we chose a date two weeks later to tell the family and make it our official "engagement" anniversary.

But now? He tells everyone! He's excited! He smiles and plays with the ring I chose. He tells me he can't wait to marry me, and even chose the venue.

I guess the moral is if he can't have mature conversations about it or if he truly doesn't want to get married, then I think you deserve someone who can communicate better at the very least. Especially at 31. Maybe you could take him to some premarital counselling?
