Can you live in accordance with your preferred gender expression?

No, I cannot fully express my interpretation of gender. I try to lean into the more feminine aspects of my personality as much as possible. But not as much as I wish. There is a lot of gender policing going on from people around me. Even the self-described progressives almost unconsciously resort to shame and mockery of any overtly feminine aspects of me.

I'm quite good at ignoring many of the microagressions leveled at me but it can get exhausting. I'm very masc presenting in general, just my general vibe. But I wish I could paint my nails and experiment with makeup. The fear of mockery prevents me from doing so. I'm tempted to go for it after I see my family next week but definitely not before. Already being suspected of being gay for being emotionally expressive and comfortable with being single.

I don't think the culture moved on sufficiently for vast majority of men sadly. And as I said (and I don't want this to sound like some kind of progressive bashing) a lot of feminist identifying people I know are actually very hostile to the idea of men having broader range of gender expressions. Goes without saying that conservative minded people are significantly worse.
