can we stop gatekeeping childhood punishment

Oh yeah and I'd argue that these southern children that get plenty of freedom and only get punished at reasonable times are probably (definitely?) growing up to be more mentally balanced and have better self esteem. But I don't think that growing up like that makes you tougher, necessarily, when you could grow up being forced to make straight A's and be perfect at everything and get emotionally slaughtered if you were late to church, or being treated like a POW if you lie about your grades because you were literally catatonic for months on end. Nah, I mean, that was extreme and also we shouldn't necessarily wear our abuse as a badge or honor or something to be superior about, but posting shit shaming people for growing up without getting hit just makes you look soft
