Canadian House of Commons unanimously pass motion to revoke Aung San Suu Kyi's honorary citizenship

The military is not under the control of the civilian government or Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi is barred by law from taking office. They call her defacto leader, but she is not in control of the military. They do not obey her orders in any way.

It is disappointing to see the Canadian government buying into this farce. The military in Myanmar has seats in government enough to prevent any attempt to reign in the military or amend the constitution. They have barely moved towards civilian government with the military junta giving up partial powers just a few years ago.

Do we see the Canadian parliament doing the hard work of sanctioning Generals in charge? No. Do we see thorough reports and investigations into war crimes? No. The only thing we see is a broadside attack against a fledgling civilian government with no actual power.

tl;dr Aung San Suu Kyi needs international allies to reign in a military that isn't under her control. Does she get that? No. They launched a broadside attack that helps the military undermine her at home.
