"I can't check the time because my watch is doing a software update" is probably the most ridiculous thing I've said this week

First off as a responsible person who has a job... Software Architect... It is perfectly acceptable in a big boy job to pull out your phone and check the time or even a message or two. That is the world we live in. If you work in a blue collar job, this may be unacceptable because they pay you for time. I am paid for my brain... I don't have a problem with pulling my phone out in from of my companies CEO while he is talking to me... He does the same. It is a different time... Checking a phone isn't disrespectful unless you are in a movie.

When the Apple Watch first came out the joke around the office was that instead of pulling your phone out to check a message, you would be looking at your wrist to check the time like you had somewhere else more important to be. The distinction being, I just need to read a text, verses I need to know the time because I have other things to do besides talk to you.

Second, as a professor at a university with a masters degree in Software Engineering, I see professors who don't like students checking a cell phones as luddites. Totally unacceptable in this day and age for them to believe that a college aged student isn't responsible enough to pay attention. But then again, some of them have huge complexes because they don't have successful big boy jobs. Also, what kind of classroom are you in that doesn't have a clock at the front of the room? Or people with laptops out?

I am not going to touch the Xbox thing much, because it has nothing to do with preferences and everything to do with load time and random access of huge files. Keep playing the 360... No problem with that, I own almost every game console back to the Atari 2600. But you can't say the 360 and the One serve the same purpose with the same quality.
