Please. Wechat pay uses outdated QR code that most of the world has already ditched for NFC, Japan ditched QR more than 10 years ago because of safety concerns with the technology.

Because your account information isn't stored on your phone but on Tencent's servers probably somewhere in Shenzhen, which means it's going to be fun when a hacker gets access to it and empties everyone's wallet. Then no refund because Tencent is backed up by the CCP.

I will give you that, Wechat wallet is great when compared to options in the West, thing is, it only works so great because the Chinese government basically made it mandatory for ventures to buy the whole hardware system that allows to print the QR receipt in order to help Tencent, and they couldn't force shops to buy it in other countries.

But compared to the availability of hardware-free NFC payment methods in Japan, Korea, Singapore, HK, Taiwan and Malaysia, Wechat wallet is a joke.
