I had such a hard time, personally, coming to terms with the Cosby thing. I know that sounds ridiculous, but grew up on The Cosby Show. I thought Bill Cosby was the pinnacle of fathers; mine was never around much in my life.

Finding out that he was a manipulative rapist was a tough blow. And I’m a lower middle class white girl. I can’t even speak to the good he did for the black community, how it must feel to find out the truth after what he did for an entire culture in America.

Regardless, the truth came out and as much as it sucks, I can’t imagine denying it. False rape claims are about as common as false claims in other types of violent crimes. Why do we doubt rape survivors so much? Why do people get away with these crimes?

Even at work, where everyone at my office claims they don’t allow themselves to be “too political”, I’ve heard multiple people talking about how our system is “innocent until proven guilty”, and just don’t understand how one woman can ruin a man’s life and career. They’ve even compared it to the Cosby ordeal.

America is not great. It’s not even good, right now. Everyone needs to take a good long hard look inside of themselves and decide what outcome they’d really like to achieve...
