CMV: Conservatives who claim to promote individual liberty over government restrictions, engage in hypocrisy when they ask the government to restrict the liberties of others: gay marriage, abortion, drug use, polygamy, euthanasia, etc.

Two questions.

First, Why do you feel that way? In my admittedly limited experience it usually boils down to: “someone like my parents told me to think this way once and I’ve never questioned it” or religion? Or just a general lack of sympathy for women?

Secondly, What about amputation? Removing a tumour? Using a scrub to remove dead skin cells from your foot? Should someone be forced to keep all that as well?

Assuming the response to the above is “none of that is alive” then what is? What counts as “living”?

Where is the line that a fetus becomes a “child”.

At inception? Have you ever masturbated? Does sperm count?

What about a woman’s periods? Potential children in that blood once upon a time.

What about animals? Cows, lamb, pigs? They’re alive but ok to murder?

Plants are alive by some scientific definitions. When is a strawberry killed? What about it’s seeds?

What about capital punishment?

I’m making a lot of assumptions about your opinions here sure, but I notice that conservatives who are “pro-life” are also meat eating captial punishment supporters, so I really just want to know. I don’t mean to attack you but I’m generally interested in why pro-lifers take that attitude.

Why is it that a killing fetus is murder when really, at the level of development where it is still legal for an abortion they are less alive than the cow was before it provided that steak on last night’s dinner plate.
