CMV: By refusing to connect terrorism and Islam, the left is playing a dangerous game

First of all, it's always nice to see a well-written, duel-sided argument like yours; most of these posts are written with predefined bias that don't incite most to even answer.

Now, I'd have to agree with you on most counts. Yes, there is a connection between those who commit terrorism out of religious faith, and those who are clearly mad. The problem, unfortunately, goes much deeper into the realms of human psychosis.

Take, for existence, WWII. After the commonly know connections were drawn between Japanese americans and coordinated attacks, a movement began in america that would be felt for decades.

The problem is that we, as a species, are inherently prejudice against every factor of life. Past experiences and events shape the way we perceive others, to the point where some of us have an inbred hate for one race or another. Like WWII and Japanese Americans, Terrorism and Islam rolls a fine line between racism and realistic fear.

This line is exactly what your "Leftists" fear. As we've seen time and time again, drawing lines between culture is a very significant problem, and leads to years of racism. Is it understandable? Absolutely! If I were stuck on a plane with a clearly sketchy middle-eastern man, I too would surely be just as prejudice as the next man. Is it right? No! Chances are, he's not a terrorist.

There's a balancing act that needs to happen in order for society to remain sane. We have to acknowledge the link between the two- as you mention- without creating racism that is currently present.

Thing is, we shouldn't assume one way or another. Don't assume the man is a terrorist, but don't assume the man isn't. Check his bags, and let him be on his way.
