CMV: Why someone believes something is more important and interesting than what they believe

That is a belief without foundation, and IMHO entirely unimportant and uninteresting. That is a belief without foundation, and IMHO entirely unimportant and uninteresting.

The concept of belief is essentially two-sided, since you can view the concept or form of belief as as "simple" or as a "complex".

It appears based on your original post, that are viewing belief in a complex form, which is why you only are interested in complex reasons behind beliefs" as important rather than view the belief in a simple form.

That's valid and all. But recognizing that the concept of belief is two-sided is important, so that you don't get caught up into one side (either too much complexity or too much simplicity)

So yes, even though the example was silly, it was mostly used to illustrate- and highlight the fact beliefs can be seen as very simple in essence (or complicated depending upon your how you go about it. Hell even seemingly complicated beliefs such a belief in gun-control or freewill can be seen as very simple as well.

Te concept of belief is like art, it exists, and can express itself in different ways, but how it impacts you as the viewer- depends upon your perspective of it. You can choose to look at complicated painting as simple art. Similarly, you can choose look at simple painting as complicated art.

Apply this to your view of belief. I may not be able to change your view from viewing belief as complicated, but I can at least invite you to recognize that the same concept of belief can also, be viewed from a simple angle as well.
