Colorado board votes no on allowing medical marijuana for PTSD - The Colorado Board of Health voted 6-2 — amid shouts, hisses and boos from a packed house — not to add post-traumatic stress disorder to the medical conditions that can be treated under the state's medical marijuana program.

Thanks for sharing the link. Interesting read. While I dont really question the validity of an Israeli source, I think it's important the US to have it's own research if that's what's going to be used to create US laws. For example, traditional Chinese medicine, which is widely used in China (as is western medicine) would have some conflicting opinions with the FDA.

Time also has a nice article on the Colorado ruling. One piece of the article I'd like to point out is:

After hearing testimony from veterans hoping to access the drug, most of the board’s members said they could not support it because there is not enough scientific evidence that marijuana can help with PTSD and anecdotal evidence is not enough, according to The Denver Post. “I’m struggling with the science piece,” board member Dr. Christopher Stanley said.

I don't think this was shot-down because of the social phobias of marijuana. I think the doctors examined the issue from a scientific standpoint, which is what they should be doing. If this was about using rhino horn to treat erectile dysfunction, it would be easy to put a dozen or more Africans in-front of a board who will swear that it works. But that's not science. I think the people of Colorado should trust their board member's decision and bring it up again after proper studies are done. It's not as if they are blocking access to the drug. They're just saying that it won't be discounted until they figure out the science of it all. That just seems very reasonable to me. The flip-side of this is taking responsibility for what could happen to PTSD veterans if it turns out that marijuana isn't effective. That could mean that they don't take better, FDA approved medical treatments because they mistakenly think that the marijuana is helping. It could also lead to cases where the PTSD could get worse. We really don't know because not enough study has been done on this issue in the US. Drugs that are rushed to market without proper study have had a history of causing a lot of harm, so caution is always warranted.
