A county votes to rename Georgia elementary school after Michelle Obama

No argument against naming it after a prominent black woman, but I’m a little surprised Michelle Obama was chosen over some women and African American figures who are (were) actually from the State of Georgia.

There is a long list of accomplished women who made historical firsts from the region, in addition to all of the civil rights leaders from Georgia and prominent African Americans in general.

I would have nominated a name like Susie King Taylor. First black Army nurse, and also had a strong link to education:

I guess reddit will always find something to bitch about. Let me guess, if it was susie king or the first black army nurse you can't even remember the name of (Della Raney Jackson) you'd be complaining it wasn't someone more known or modern like Michelle Obama.
