Crappy Childhood Fairy - 10 Steps to Step up your CPTSD Healing

I can relate to what you said, although I feel the need to come to her defense a bit because I think she seems like a genuine person trying to survive (by thus I mean seeking to earn a living from her recovery videos), trying to heal, and trying to help others at the same time. Most people, including people who have suffered terrible childhoods, don't know about CPTSD, let alone how to recover from it. I feel like her approach on mainstream YouTube is going to bring light to a lot of people, perfect though she is not. I think it's fair to say she's not done healing, although I'm not sure she claims to be. It's a fair point, though.

I'm definitely not trying to invalidate your or other critics' here feelings towards her, I get it. It is reality that different people will react differently to someone, based on their own experiences. For example, and may I not be downvoted for not praising the God of Recovery, Pete Walker triggers me terribly and I can't bear to listen to him. He reminds me too much of male therapists I had in my teens who were complicit in blaming me for my symptoms and ignoring the signs of abuse in my family. This was in the days before CPTSD was even on the radar. But there is no denying the potentially millions of people he has helped.

If you haven't already, it might be worth asking yourself why this woman bothers you, just for your own insight. I recognised right away that the CC Fairy ticks my trigger boxes because she looks and sounds like my suburban American middle-class Midwestern family (even the use of the word crappy bothers me). That whole worldview (or lack of it!) is so associated with my abuse, scapegoating, and gaslighting that I moved to a different country 25 years ago and never went back. I have listened to some of her stuff, though, and it was at the very least validating.
