Is the current upheaval and protesting regarding social justice in America any similar or different to how the Iranian Revolution historically unfolded?

I don’t know much about the history of Iran. Before the Iran revolution, the country appears to look very liberated and free in photographs. The people looked almost the same as Americans in their fashion — and photography depicts what looks to be a happy place. It’s basically unrecognizable to what I know Iran to be today.

From the little I know about this part of history, I was told by someone I met from the area this movement, at the time, had huge support - many students were also involved, and people expected social justice and freedom to be the result. Later, many of those supporters supposedly experienced regret, feeling like they made a mistake. After hearing this, I found an article that sort of touched on that perspective.

Maybe I just don’t know enough, but I was curious if there were any similarities between the unfolding of the Iran revolution and what’s taking place in America today. If you were alive and familiar with this time period, I would love to hear your feedback (even if you didn’t experience it first hand, and just have info to share, please do).
