Daily Headphone Purchase Advice thread (2016-02-17)

Hello and sorry for the long message! Budget - £250, slightly flexible. Source – Laptop, phone. Requirements for Isolation – Good isolation, working in library. Will you be using these Headphones in Public? – Yes (most of the time). Preferred Type of Headphone – Full-sized. Preferred tonal balance – Nothing particular (see precisions below). Past headphones – Recently dead Urbanears Plattan that I’ve had for way too long. Preferred Music – In that order: electronic (electronica, techno, IDM, synthpop & electropop, glitch…), art pop / dream pop, folk, black metal, post-rock, ambient… What would you like to improve on from your set-up – Definitely more detail and clarity. Location – UK & France.

More precisions – I am quite lost, not sure if with that money I would prefer one pair of good heapdones, or maybe some IEMS for on the go listening and good headphones at home… Most of my listening time is out of home though.

I am currently torne between the V-Moda M100 and the Momentum 2.0; I guess the most sensible choice would be the Sennheisers since I listen to various genres, but at the same time most of my music is electronic-based and I kind of fell in love with the M100 when I saw them (design, portatibility (I need to carry them around) and build quality). My main question would be if I will still be able to enjoy Joanna Newsom & other chamber folk / pop music with the powerful bass the M100 has… I am also not an audiophile and although I could clearly hear the soundstage difference between the different pairs I recently tried (M50x, DT770, HD600 for comparison...), I am not sure different sound signatures will bother me, having virtually only had one bad pair until now…
