Daily Megathread - 05/04/2021

Way to ignore the actual point of the article, which is that Labour's drift towards, not just American-style, but outright lifted from America, identity politics will not help them on a national scale. Khan winning big in May will not be the beginnings of a comeback. Mostly, it will just show London's drift Yank-wards.

US Democrats can get away with the activist wing telling the national majority to hate themselves because the white population has sufficiently small a majority for the self-loathing uni graduate to get them to 51% of the vote. That doesn't work in the UK and, should Labour interpret Khan's likely landslide as anything other than a symptom of London diverging from the rest of the country since 2010, they will just keep digging the hole that led to the 2019 result.
