Daily Open Discussion Thread

Unpopular opinion: People are being too hard on Cam Newton... Don't get me wrong. I personally think his choice of words were wrong and definitely not appropriate in any professional setting.

However, people are ignoring the fact that what probably made him chuckle in the first place was the fact that she said "truck sticking" when wrapping up her question. IMO, he made an incorrect assumption that just because she incorporated a madden term in a real press conference, she was open game.

Obviously bringing up her gender was a mistake on his part, and he definitely needs to own up to that. I just think this sheds light on the current situation with sports media in general. Most of these writers that are using every possible opportunity to criticize players have very little playing experience of their own. Male or female. Now, thanks to twitter, there are more unqualified opinions than ever before. As a player, I know that has to get annoying. It gets annoying even as a fan having to listen to some of these reporters.

Not to mention none of these condemning SI articles or other members of the media are acknowledging Jourdan's tweets about racism from a few years back. Literally, none of them have breathed a word about it. No one is perfect, and I think this is just an example of people jumping at the opportunity to be offended and ignoring every other point that attacks their reasoning for victimization.
