Declassified tapes reveal Richard Nixon's hate for Indians

And what exactly does "conservatism" mean in India?

The 'indian culture', hinduism. Thats what I mean.

Oh, you mean as opposed to so called "liberals" who institutionalized "progressive ideals" like religious laws?

Oh I completely agree with you on 'liberals'. The so called 'liberals' politicians in India are some of the worthless piece of crap who couldn't stand to their ideals and simply cow-towed to islamic/non-hindu conservatives and vote-bank politics. Had they stood to their ideals, the country won't be as shitty as today.

Yeah, because being a socialist country worked out so well, right?

Given how bad the country was before independence, it actually has. Though again, not that much because it still doesn't reach the right people, again inefficient implementation.

Right. Because anyone who isn't one hundred percent behind you is an Islamophobe. Where have we heard that before?

Oh you can check my history, even I am not 100% behind Islam at all. But at least I understand that showing hatred towards all muslims for the actions of few, still doesn't solve the issues they are facing.

Frankly, there is no 'socially progressive' party in the country, the social situations in the country is still as bad as it was 70 years ago. At least the 'liberal' side of politicians pretended to stand, the right-wingers do not even bother to care, they are proud of their faults and call every progressive ideals as 'western which doesn't suit indian culture'. The current discourse I am seeing is far more scary than it was 8 years ago.

This might come as a shock to you, but Indian political landscape is a bit more complex than left vs right. Your buzzwords that you blindly imported from the American political system simply don't translate.

Not simply translate, but still can be translated. BJP isn't far from INC and 'liberal' parties when it comes to economy,i.e socialist. It all just matters who they cater to. But still both the parties are culturally/socially as conservative as it gets.
