I'm sorry, but with how much extremism on both sides of this argument on Reddit, I've had to go into depth about this quite a few times. It's nothing personal.
then going on to say that it's pretty much the same in cases where they remove just the hood (and I agree with that), but when I press for more information about in what percentage of cases MGM and FGM actually are comparable you say you don't know, and wiki said it's very rare.
This is not the only comparable type of FGM to circumcision you know, the problem is getting accurate information on FGM because it's widely illegal and the types carry a broad definition.
For example:
"Type II (excision) is the complete or partial removal of the inner labia, with or without removal of the clitoral glans and outer labia. Type IIa is removal of the inner labia"
Now we've already covered that removing the whole clitoris is worse than normal male circumcision, but this definition says it can be with just the removal of the clitoral-hood and the inner labia, or the whole clitoris and the inner labia, or both with the inner labia. Then Type IIa is just the removal of the inner labia.
Now those forms of FGM are more common, again, removal of the whole clitoris is worse than regular circumcision on males. But for these types the whole clitoris does not need to be removed. The Labia Minora (inner labia) is the main focus on this type of FGM.
The Labia Minora is homologous to, " the male foreskin, frenulum, urethra but no other penile skin".
When the full clitoris is not removed, this type of FGM is comparable to MGM just like when only the clitoral-hood is removed.
This type of FGM the inner labia only has to be partially removed, or it can be fully removed. In MGM "the frenulum may be partially or totally removed. It is also often removed in a circumcision". Most of the time it is removed in circumcision, but when it is only partially removed it's, "the frenulum was reported to be cut in 26.7%, 20%, and 33.33% of circumcised patients in various surveys".
Research on the frenulum is interesting, you will find that it is actually the most sensitive part of the penis.
Generally speaking, FGM is much, much worse than circumcision, so don't go ugh and tell me to hold judgement when the type of FGM that is comparable is almost never carried out.
I could bring up more and more facts on how they are similar, and I could bring up more facts on how they're different. The fact of the matter is this is a VERY complex subject, I am not deny that many forms of FGM are worse than MGM, I am pointing out that that there is a grey area of similarity between the two that many people don't know about.
