Diets absolutely do work, you just weren't consistent or disciplined enough to stick to it

You wanna know what’s really good at causing or aggravating mental health issues? Like way better than being called a name on the internet?Being overweight.

Most people who are obese or overweight are obese or overweight voluntarily. Let’s examine this overwhelming majority and not the tiny fraction who have complicating health factors, who I actually sympathize with.

Fat? Check. Lazy? Check. They care more about convenience and short-term pleasure than long term health and happiness. Fuck? Meaningless derogatory term to call a person. So, check, I guess.

Hence, fat lazy fucks.

I don’t think blaming the inherent complexity of the human body and the somewhat rare physiological circumstances that prevent weight loss is valid. The human body didn’t suddenly get so much more complex and these medical conditions so much more common in the past several decades that obesity rates more than tripled.

Still, I don’t think that people are just lazier today than they were in the past. The issue is systemic. Travel is longer and more sedentary, work is longer and more sedentary, most food at the grocery store is pumped full of high fructose corn syrup, the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. It’s getting harder and harder to be physically and mentally healthy.

It is very rude of me to call these people “fat lazy fucks,” even if it is anonymously on the internet. You’re right about that. And yet, I’m doing far less damage than anyone out there passionately defending fat people from so-called “micro-aggressions” and spreading the falsehood that their situation is involuntary. Besides COVID, obesity is killing more people than anything else in the industrialized world, and the trend is only exacerbating. We shouldn’t be protecting people’s feelings above all else. We should call people fat and lazy who are fat and lazy. The more we coddle fat people’s feelings and ignore the real issues, the more we socially normalize a killer.

I don’t think that bullying fat people and calling them names is the answer. I shouldn’t do that. But it’s frustrating seeing so many people killing themselves and convincing themselves and each other that they just can’t help it. Most people who are fat are making bad decisions. Bad decisions are easier to make today than they were in the past, but they are decisions notwithstanding. By making better decisions, they can be healthier. End of story.
