Disney refuses to cut ‘gay moment’ from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ for Malaysia, pulls movie from theatres

I'm confused. From what I can tell, the Malaysian film board specifically asked for that scene to be cut before approving the movie. Disney decided not to cut the scene, which means the movie is not approved. I assume in Malaysia, you can't release an unapproved film.

I know you think this whole thing is a publicity stunt, but what exactly are you suggesting someone do differently?

A) Are you saying Disney could have not cut the scene and still released the film in Malaysia? (Sounds like that's not the case.)

B) Are you saying Disney should have just cut the scene and not withdrawn the film? e.g. From what I can tell, the only way for them to avoid making a big deal out of this and avoid having to pull the FILM would've been to give in to the censorship and cut the scene.

C) Are you saying that Disney refusing to cut and withdrawing the film is simply not that big a deal, and there shouldn't be articles about it? So you are blaming people for blowing this out of proportion, even though Disney is basically pulling a movie from a whole country?

D) Are you saying Disney should never have put a small "gay moment" in the film in the first place, to avoid this sort of thing from happening, e.g. pre-emptively censor themselves by avoiding depiction of gay characters?

I'm not saying Disney isn't trying to get publicity from this. I'm just saying I don't see how any other choice by them would've been better.
