I was confused when I'd first learned of this as it was my understanding that patents were for inventions meeting a specific set of criteria, not naturally occurring things in nature (eg cant patent a mountain).

If the former, it would mean that this patented human Ebola virus strain is man made (biological weapon).

If the latter, it would mean the gov is granting monopolies on things naturally occurring & independently observable in nature (which I understand to not be patentable).

So I read the patent trying to find text or citation containing evidence of the patented human virus strain being a naturally occurring one & couldn't find any. There was only speculation offered, like possible transmission from a monkey autopsy to the man doing the autopsy.

The lack of evidence of the patented strain occurring naturally in nature indicates it is a patent on an invention (a man made human Ebola virus strain), in which case, any "outbreaks" of it would be man made.

Given this has occurred in the past (anthrax), scrutiny of any shipping of the virus and any outbreak/vaccine mandate attempts is merited.
