Donald Trump Gets Heckled at New Hampshire Diner: 'Enjoy Your Burger, Racist!'

You're right, I did misspeak. It's not I believe that it had nothing at all to do with it. But from the soldiers perspective, the people fighting the war, it really didn't. It took a backseat to the other issues. Burns even admits it was much more complicated in that very quote. I think he's pointing more to the linchpin, which was slavery related, but he might want to revisit his own 10 hour special on the subject. Sure, South Carolina elites had every motive to fight against abolition. Obviously, they depended on slaves, they were a one crop economy, they are bound to look out for their own interests, ethical or not. They instigated a lot and were the last straw in the ordeal and a lot of the driving forces behind the scenes were slavery related. But from the people who fought the war, the soldiers on the ground and the political & social support behind the war, the people WAVING THE FLAG, what was on their mind was not the right to own slaves, but the right of states to be independent from federal power and to not be pushed around by the north. There was a great imbalance of power, the north's infrastructure was lightyears ahead of the south's, and they were abusing that imbalance to make the south bend to their wishes. Nevermind that some north states were still slave states when the war began, it's clear that the north also certainly didn't go to war over the sole issue of slavery, they were more worried about retaining a single union.

My comment was a simple quick-writ comment on how the confederate flag is not and never has been a symbol of racism, slavery, or oppression. You turn around and get nitpicky and suggest I'm a racist who only believes revisionist history. Do you even see the problems in your accusations? You can talk all you want about revisionism, but it's the winners who write history, and they do also have a narrative to follow.
