Dumb Questions Tuesday | April 28, 2015

In all seriousness, do Americans not realize how much they are being manipulated by their own media and political establishment??? the amount of times I hear Americans point and laugh at Russians, Syrians, Iranians, whatever, about their lack of media freedom while proclaiming their own neutrality and freedom from manipulation is seriously a joke. Was it not enough that the NSA leaks revealed not only that your government spying on every single thing you do, but they are actively and aggressively manipulating you too???

Why is there so much apathy in the US about this shit?

The best example of this that I've seen is the following article: https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2014/02/24/jtrig-manipulation/

That's an NSA and GCHQ presentation literally detailing how they use online trolls to control discourse and manipulate readers. And yet I have to listen to shit about how Russian trolls flood the internet to support Putin and whatever. It's truly sickening.

I'm not bashing individual Americans, but the collective mindset of Americans is outstandingly ignorant and fucked up. And it's not just this apathy, but it's the outright hypocrisy too: I have to listen to Americans tell me how I should live my own life or how this or that country's leader is a dictator and that their people aren't free. I have to listen to American politicians tell me how disgusting it is that Putin invaded Crimea or that Assad used chemical weapons... the US literally invaded a country just a few years ago, and it wiped out entire countries using nuclear and chemical weapons!!!

Look in the fucking mirror guys!

So what gives? How do Americans accept this reality and live like it doesn't matter???
