Alcohol is overrated, and getting drunk feels awful

Sounds like your mother drank multiple bottles of wine and didn't get sick until the next morning. She then felt well enough to drink again the next night.

This subthread was about the minority of people who metabolize alcohol badly and subsequently avoid it. That doesn't sound like your mother, unfortunately. If she got sick after one serving of alcohol, she wouldn't have another. If her hangovers were so bad she couldn't drink for days, she wouldn't drink the next night.

Some alcoholics do start out with a high tolerance but lose that tolerance after years of consumption. It's the lack of illness at the beginning that allows the addiction to develop, however.
