Employers push for a new casual worker category but unions slam the proposal

The chamber said it will avoid "double-dipping" of benefits, after the Federal Court ruled that a casual truck driver was entitled to annual leave, as he worked regular and predictable shifts.

He got a double-dip because he was conned out of being a permanent employee. If I was the business chamber I'd be right to be wary of others seeking the same.

Casual should be limited to seasonal work (~3 months). You shouldn't be able to claim 'season' for the same roles all year round. If your season is longer than 3-4 months and the business still wants a worker, transfer to them part time instead and serve redundancy when the time comes, or go without until the next season window.
