SSW and ROX follow the exact same formula structure wise, though a bit different.

SSW had the best jungle in the world, the best support in the world, a top 3 ADC, a top 5 mid, and a role-player top. The strongest aspect was the Mata+DanDy duo, which is probably one of the strongest if not the strongest synergies to grace LoL (up there with Bengi+Faker). The vision game SSW had because of Mata/DanDy is unparalleled to this day. Mata is the genius of the team, the voice and soul of the team. Mata > DanDy> Imp > PawN > Looper in terms of importance/strength.

ROX has the best support in the world, the best top laner in the world, a top 5 ADC, a top 3 jungle, and a role-player mid. Gorilla is the main voice and soul of his team. In terms of strength/importance, it's Gorilla>Smeb>Peanut> PraY > KurO. Gorilla and Smeb are interchangeable since Smeb is arguably the 2nd best (or even the best if you ask me) player in the world overall.

History wise, SSW was considered the favorites heading into Spring 2014. Dade was disappointing at worlds 2013 and Winter 2013 so they switched Dade to SSB and PawN to SSW. SSB with its weaker roster individually banded together individually and beat SSW 3-1. This happened again in Summer. By the time the world championships rolled around, Dade (the key player of Blue) had waned in effectiveness while SSW had only grown stronger over time. SSW convincingly beat SSB 3-0.

SSW had too many big names which led to the slow rise to power over the course of 2014. ROX is the same way. The reason they may have surpassed SSW is that they showed sheer dominance with the same formula from the beginning. ROX began Spring with the level of power that SSW had at the end. Overcoming the obstacle of having too much star power is not easy, but ROX did it.
