Have you ever not slept for so long that you started hallucinating? What was your experience?

This will get lost, but I recently finished my PhD. While writing a particular section of my thesis, I didn’t sleep for about 70 hours straight. Hadn’t taken anything and was completely sober, just running off pure drive and deadline pressure.

At some point I hit the ‘repeat song’ button on some song I liked the sound of on Spotify and accidentally ended up listening to that single song from this one artist without even realising for about an entire day towards the end, which ended up putting me in their 0.5% of listeners despite not listening to any of their other songs before or after that.

I knew I had started hallucinating when the song came back around, except the tempo had changed. It was like it was in slowmo. Got even weirder once I started to realise this because the next time around it was sped up about 2x normal speed. This went on for about an hour before I called it.

While I was making one last figure, things around the screen in my periphery were slowly drifting around while I wasn’t focusing on them. Made it really difficult to put things in position and I crashed so hard as soon as I sent it off to my supervisor. Terrible idea, would not recommend.
