The US does not make it as easy to get citizenship as you might think, and im not referring to the test of knowledge at the end but just actually legally being allowed to live and work and fully emigrate here. My bf is Canadian and we have spent the past year deep in research, but ive always been interested in this topic. Have you ever looked at the pages online to see if you'd be allowed to even try to move here (pretending you have no family in the USA and don't have a "hot commodity" degree under you?) I don't even mean actual citizenship, I mean just coming over to a country legally and being able to support yourself while there. Even permanent residency had a lot of hoops, and working is not possible under many easily obtained visas. Yes it's easy enough to visit the land body, but much harder to stay without independent funds.

They might not pay taxes, but look at their life. Constant fear and deception to those in their lives. Never being able to go for a well paying job with benefits that they might really be fulfilled at. Working low paying jobs under the table to (often) cruel people who hold the immigration over their head. It's not all sunshine and roses to be an immigrant. They aren't stealing your jobs or your services. Hell, you can get the services too. I know, you feel you deserve it now because you paid in. They would pay in, if they were allowed to. Why should they not get the chance to better their life too? As far as paying into the infrastructure of society, yes they can't help schools and roads etc, but they do shop here and use positive services that help us.

And honestly, the subject of how well we allocate and use tax money is another subject of its own. Why should Congress and corporations sucking up every bit of cash, land, and valuable resources for themselves at the expense of all of our citizens be something that the immigrants have to emotionally "pay" for? The focus should be on making the system more functional (crumbling roads and bridges, other outdated infrastructure, failing schools in every state), imo- not on pinning it on the one group who can't help but not contribute. I bet they would, if you let them. I think people are mad at the wrong thing when they use these immigration arguments.

Anyway, ive really enjoyed saying all of that out loud, so to speak. I thank you for the opportunity to share my passion for freedom.
