For the first time in 50 years, Congress has allowed the Land & Water Conservation Fund to expire. As a result, America's national parks are now at a higher risk of private development within their borders.

I am going to preface this rant by saying that I lean left politically but agree with the right on a couple of positions. This isn't an indictment of right leaning political views, but just how god damn awful the GOP has become.

The GOP is going to get killed in the 2016 election and the brass in the party knows it. This strategy of do nothing and fight tooth and nail on anything Obama wants rather than actually govern, only vote for things far right leaning because fuck RINOs, constantly try to shut down government over things that aren't going to happen like killing Obamacare for the 40th time and Planned Parenthood, and saying terrible things about black, brown, poor, and gay people will win them lots of shit kicker congressional districts and a little beyond in mid-term election years when turnout is extremely low and only the really angry conservatives come out to vote. Hell, their bedrock constituents love them for doing just that.

However, in a presidential election year, when a lot more people turn out to vote (especially left leaning), that strategy is going to get them slaughtered at the polls. You notice all the dumb shit the GOP candidates have to say in order to get the GOP nomination for their respective races otherwise they get labeled as RINOs? Yeah, the Dems just get to play those soundbites on loop come 2016. The Dems get to remind people how a party with the majority in the House and Senate is the lowest rated, least productive legislative body in the history of the country. Why do you think Boehner is leaving? He sees the writing on the wall, and doesn't want to be associated with it anymore. Mitch is probably not far behind.

So yeah, a part of me is glad that the GOP House is letting essential legislation go unfunded in addition to the other dumb crap they do. It is just going to ensure that they cannot possibly win the presidency in the foreseeable future, especially with demographics shifting the way they are. The GOP is destroying themselves from the inside because they made a deal with the devil in the tea party in 2010 and now the crazy nutjobs have taken over. They are on the verge of splitting up as a party. The hope is, that the moderate, non-crazy people who actually care more about the country than trying to fulfill an ideology that is insane (like Boehner) go do their own thing, and the crazies get isolated. What would emerge would be a political party that is actually productive, unlike what the GOP has become.
