Game Informer's GOTY Countdown – #8: Half-Life: Alyx

I wish more people could experience Alyx, because it was one of the most transcendent video game experiences I have ever had, in my 30+ years of being a disgusting crusty nerd.

There are other VR games that have more going on - the lack of melee combat and some of the lack of interactivity in the world has certainly been done better in other VR games - but Alyx was a complete package, well-done, and it didn't ever feel like janky or taped-together like other VR games.

Alyx is such an incredible time. And, for me - I was there in 1999 when Half-Life blew us away, I grew up playing on WON servers and eventually moved to Steam, I was there on release day for Half-Life 2, I picked up Episode One on release and beat it in one sitting, and then the same with Episode 2. I've been waiting since sometime on October 11th 2007, for another Half-Life game. I ended up being an idiot and buying an index just for this game... I had impossible expectations and I came away with a big dumb nerdy goofy smile, just like Episode 2, Episode 1, Half-Life 2, and Half-Life 1.
